Wishing All Of You a Happy New Year – YEAR OF THE DOG !

Good morning.

Wishing all of you a Happy Chinese New Year  – the YEAR OF THE DOG !

It is that time of the year where family members will be busy heading home to celebrate the new year with their families.  As for us who had migrated overseas, how will you be celebrating your chinese new year?

When we live far away from our family friends, it is always important to remember our roots, our loved ones overseas, and most of all, share our traditions and values with the  younger generations, such as enjoying steamed boat, yee sang or cooked dishes together with all your families.

Personally, I feel that it is important to share your culture with your children or grandchildren, and more so when you are living overseas and far away from your families and community?

Because our culture is about our identity; it is about who we are as a person and as a community. And since we are all living overseas, our children can only learn the values through us and the few family and friends within our network.

That’s why PAA NSW is passionate about sharing our cultural heritage with you and your family, by introducing the peranakan cuisines, rituals and how the peranakan celebrate chinese new year right here in Sydney through our monthly events.

As such, I would like to end this note by proudly announcing that the registration for our Chinese New Year dinner is now officially over our targeted numbers. Therefore we have to apologise to all members who would like to attend but have not booked, with the over whelming support from our members and new members, we have closed the registration for this event earlier than intended.

What we will be sharing in this event is to introduce our peranakan cuisine to the community (7 course of Peranakan dishes and desserts as well as yee sang), plus our traditional way of hosting social events –  the Tok Panjang (Long Table) style. Throughout the event we will be sharing the peranakan culture through our cuisine, lifestyle, music, dance and much much more.

If you missed out on our dinner, please join us for our future monthly events as well as our annual dinner, which is going to be held in September. More details to come.

I would like to end this note by saying a BIG thank you all members for your continual support and we look forward to a mutually fun and empowering relationships together.

Happy New Year to you and your family.
