Event 1: Cultural Talk – Historical overview of Peranakan communities in Malaysia, Singapore, and tracing the origins and formation of Peranakan communities throughout Southeast Asia by Dr Marc Rerceretnam

About the speaker:

Dr Marc Rerceretnam is a freelance academic author and historian. He is the principal researcher at Yesteryear Heritage Researchers. He has taught at various universities and has a Ph.D. (Econ History) from the University of Sydney. He also served as an elected representative in Local Government from 2004 to 2012. He has a special interest in social and political trends and movements in colonial and present-day Singapore, Malaysia and Australia and has published a book and many academic journal articles on a variety of issues.

Event 2 – Ikat Sarong by Evelyn Tian

 Evelyn Tian, President PAA NSW, will then take the floor to show us how to Ikat Sarong. So please bring along your sarong.
